From 1996 to 2009 I was employed by the European division of Ryder System Inc., holding progressively responsible positions in fleet operations, transportation services, distribution and supply chain solutions, managing companies in Germany, Poland, Hungary, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, as well as operations in Spain, France, Italy, and Romania. From 1994 to 1996, I was Director of Public Sector Logistics at Thyssen Haniel Logistic GmbH, and managing director of a 5-company consortium for military logistics services.
I retired from the US Army in 1994 as a Lieutenant Colonel. My 25-year reserve and active duty military career included over 15 years in Europe, during which I served in several key international strategic operations and logistics planning positions, and participated in numerous high-level bilateral negotiations with Allies in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
I hold a BA, MA & a PhD in Social Anthropology & African Studies, as well as an MBA, and am a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff Course (Fort Leavenworth, KS) and the German Armed Forces Staff College (Hamburg, GE). I taught Social Sciences at the US Military Academy (West Point, NY), was the first US Army fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (Washington, DC), and was Visiting Professor of National Security affairs at the US Naval Postgraduate School (Monterey, CA).
